Tim is a doctor in his day to day job so feels he is obliged to help the man, however this was a decision that would cost the group their fates. To survive they must test their fears, the elements and their friendships.
This book was one that I'd been waiting to read a long time, for any horror lover I think trying to sway from the usual ghosts and ghouls is hard enough because there is so many like that. All I'd heard about this book was that it was hard to stomach. Fair - I'd dealt with that before, there is only two books I've ever had to put down for descriptive reasons which were both James Herbert novels (The Fog & The Rats) This one toppled both those ranks and it wasn't during the story itself.
Spoilers ahead..
During the book, Cutter has placed in accounts, diary extracts, news reports and courtroom proceedings to keep you guessing as to what caused the mysterious disease. There account about the young 3 year old subject literally had me pulling a face and at that point I had to take a break and do something happy. If you've ever read Filth - Irvine Welsh and you thought the tape worm was hard to stomach, you will definitely find this one hard to get through. Cutter is an amazing writer, it's hard not to visualize the things he's writing. The only way I can describe this is a mix between Lord of the Flies and Guillermo Del Toro's The Strain but with tape worms on steroids'.
I had been waiting months to buy this, it also means that Nick Cutter will for sure be looked into more - I am very excited to read more by him.
